Inside a Designer’s Home | JPID Studio
Get an exclusive tour inside the home of JPID’s founder, Janet Patterson. As an Interior Designer, she is always enticed to redesign her space, but after the Pandemic forced most of the world into quarantine and #WFH life, she was inspired to do a design refresh on her high-rise Miami condo; which boasts gorgeous views of Biscayne Bay and Zaha Hadid’s Architectural gem, 1000 Museum.
The grand refresh included adding a monochromatic neutral color palette, with layered textures and pops of black throughout. The goal was to add various multi-functional elements, allowing her and her husband to comfortably work from home, creating an environment that is suitable for productivity, while still feeling energetically warm, sophisticated and cozy.
The foyer opens to stunning views and expansive natural light, featuring an indigenous, handmade hanging art piece by Caralarga – a Mexican brand that employs artisans from the village of La Esperanza, helping to build the community and support their economic growth. The pieces are handmade, using natural fibers like raw cotton – each piece tells a unique story.
The corner unit overlooks panoramic views from downtown Brickell to Miami Beach, which provides a gorgeous backdrop against the neutral tones of the interior. The petite Stature accent chair from CB2 provides a sculptural element, as does the iconic Herman Miller Noguchi coffee table – bringing the entire look together seamlessly. Hand-carved decorative objects of native alabaster add an earthy yet modern element to the room.
Small details were added to elevate the interiors, bringing in crystal accents and stacked oversized coffee table books to enhance the modern space. An articulating floor lamp by Koncept drapes over the custom sofa, where textured pillows and an Hermes cashmere throw create the perfect corner to cuddle up in.
The master bedroom was fully updated with a custom wrap-around mirror above the headboard wall, providing additional depth and height to the interior of the room. The bed is flanked by two modern custom nightstands and minimal Layla ring pendants by Tech Lighting floating above, creating a functional and harmonious resting space. His & Her bedside crystals equalize the room with a sense of peace and positive energy.
In an effort to maximize the space, a small seating alcove was created as an extension to the dresser, creating an additional #WFH space in the master bedroom, balancing functionality and aesthetic congruence.
To tie in the black accents of the house, the kitchen was updated with the Purist matte black Professional faucet by Kohler. The clear glass hanging pendants by Niche Modern float above the waterfalled Carrara marble island. Small black accessories were added in, like the stainless steel modern tea pot by Fellow and a pair of stacked acacia minimalist cutting boards by Holistic Habitat; creating continuity and consistency throughout the home.
The breakfast nook got a fresh revival, as it was converted into a hybrid seating area suitable for dining, entertaining, and work meetings. The sun-filled room features a crescent-shaped sofa by Mitchell Gold Bob Williams in a navy velvet performance fabric, accented by two Herman Miller Wishbone chairs, offering a classic look to the otherwise modern space.
The guest bedroom was transformed into a fully-functional office space with added custom features to maximize storage. Because this office space was now going to be used by Janet and her husband, an edgy gender-neutral color palette was chosen, with custom designed built-ins to maximize storage, keeping in line with the minimalist look. The dark black oak finish throughout is accented with an oversized sculptural mobile chandelier and custom-fit carpet tiles add a layer of texture & color to the interior.
The powder room brings an element of surprise, weaving in multi-cultural accents against a gorgeous jet black natural grasscloth wallcovering. This layered contrast creates depth and drama – the interior is highlighted with a single Mina LED hanging crystal pendant light by Tech Lighting, above the free-standing sink.
The main balcony, which offers incredible views of Biscayne Bay and Zaha Hadid’s Architectural gem, 1000 Museum, boasts a homemade garden wall with two comfy woven lounge chairs, perfect for winding down from a busy and productive Interior Design filled workday.
